First Edition
First Edition. (New York: The American Mercury/Jonathan Press 1947). First US Edition. A Digest Trade Paperback originally offered at 25 cents. A collection of short stories following Allingham's serial detective Albert Campion. These digest-magazine sized original collections have become quite difficult to find. No darkening to the spine (as usually found), the usual discoloration of the paper (due to the poor quality of paper used). Clean smooth and unmarked. No reading crease to the spine. Fragile cover. A nicer copy than normally seen. A former owner has unnecessarily applied a strip of tape reinforcement at the base of the spine. Still overall a VG+ copy. Seven stories and an introduction by the legendary Ellery Queen. Photographs/scans available upon request.
