Departing from traditional, chronologically linear study of architectural expressions, this volume is a distinct tribute to individual manifestations of creative utopian fabrications as it explores fanciful ideas, past and present, of architectectual shapes with attention to "the expression of whimsy" in the use of structure and materials, as well as in personal or public credo." The essays are: 1, The Found Object, 2, Toward an Extreme Tangibility; 3, Fantastic Frameworks; 4, Fascination with the Transparent; 5, The Sheltering Cave; 6, Labyrinth & Spiral; 7, Formally Restricted Improvisation; 8, A Pre-Figured Architect; 9, Hovering Architecture; 10, The Architectural Utopia; 11, The Futurist City; 12, An Obesession with Height; 13, Uptopian Cliques; 14, The "Utopian Letters"; and, 15, Utopia Today. To this Englis edition, "certain materials, textual and photographic" have been added to forward the author's message.
