Pages remain bright and clear with minimal tanning and foxing. More pronounced to endpapers, pastedowns and text block edges. Noticeable cracking to gutters and hinges . Binding is weakened. Pen inscription to front pastedown. Boards have noticeable edge wear with corner bumping and rubbing to surfaces. Gilt lettering is somewhat dulled. Clipped dust jacket. Panels to dust jacket have noticeable edge wear with chips, tears and creasing.

Substantially revised by Lord Tweedsmuir this edition also contains a number of Thomas Bewick's engravings. 315pp Maroon cloth, gold lettering. But for a hint of rubbing at the ends of the spine the book is virtually as new. The d/w has a few creases and a little wear at the foot of the spine. There is a small piece missing at the lower edge of the front panel.
