Inscribed by Roethke from Halcyon Hospital, a private psychiatric and convalescent hospital operating in mid-century Seattle, "For Mary Wilson, - /whom I trust and love (and my list of there is very short). / Theodore Roet…hke / Halcyon Hospital / 9289 -1st. N.E. / Seattle, Washington" During Roethke's tenure at the University Washington he suffered numerous bipolar episodes forcing his friends and family to arrange a for him to be admitted to Halcyon House for stabilization. These stays were typically short (weeks, not months), and he often returned to teaching and his poetry with renewed energy. A scarce representation of a dark chapter in Roethke's private life. Signed.
