Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. The Complete Poetical Works of John Greenleaf Whittier Cambridge Edition Edited by Horace E. Scudder Published by Houghton Mifflin Company, 1894 A gloriously preserved Cambridge Edition of the complete poetical works of John Greenleaf Whittier, one of the most beloved voices in 19th-century American literature. This finely produced volume reflects the high standards of late Victorian bookmaking and is an exquisite addition to any poetry or antiquarian collection. Bound in elegant black cloth with striking gold embossing, the cover remains in excellent condition for its age, showing only minimal signs of wear and very light age spotting. The spine is clean and sturdy, with no notable bumping or damage. The top edge of the pages is beautifully gold-gilded, adding a refined decorative touch. The interior is exceptionally well-preserved, appearing pristine and remarkably clean. A handsome frontispiece portrait of Whittier is included, protected by its original tissue guard, both in excellent condition. Pages are free from writing, markings, foxing, highlighting, or damage. Only a few faint smudges are present along the bottom page edges, barely noticeable and not affecting the books overall presentation. A superb example of this classic edition that is well cared for and increasingly desirable in such clean, collectible condition. (BR) Shelf 341.
