In good blue cloth boards, with black decorative titles field and black titles to front and black titles to spine. The boards are firm and flat and a little grubby. The edges are strong but the spine is a little squashed. The free…end papers are very lightly tanned; the front free end paper has names of two previous owners. The text block is clean and quite tightly bound and the pages have been well used. Not annotated. Good plus condition. Without jacket.

Boards a little rubbed and rounded at s…pine tips and extreme corners, remarkably bright and fresh. Front free endpaper absent, and old water damage affecting the base of the half-title page and frontispiece, (not affecting text or image), frontispiece rubbed along fore-edge, else internally neat, clean, and tight with just a hint of spotting on a few early and late pages. In its original dust jacket, with tipped on illustration matching that on the book (jacket is rubbed and lightly chipped at edges and folds, with minor loss at spine ends, short flat tear running from spine head along fold). Dust jacket now protected in a Brodart-style sleeve, fitted without the use of tape or adhesives. A really lovely, vintage volume of poetry and verse selected for younger readers, including works by Frank Dempster Sherman, Charles Kingsley, Marion St John Webb, Isaac Watts, Hilda Conkling, John Masefield, Walter Scott, Lord Tennyson, Lucy Larcom, Longfellow, William Cowper, Kipling, Browning, Keats, Chilman, Alice Meynell, Yeats, Lovelace, William Morris, Robert Burns, Matthew Arnold and many, many more.
