Add to basketCloth. Condition: Very Good Indeed. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First edition. The first edition of an anthology celebrating 'The Movement' literary group of the postwar years, including Kingsley Amis and Elizabeth Jennings. The first edition of New Lines, an charming anthology celebrating The Movement literary group, edited by one of its members Robert Conquest. In the publisher's original green cloth, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Born out of the post-war years, The Movement contains poets including Kingsley Amis, Philip Larkin, Elizabeth Jennings, and others whose poems are seen in this charming anthology. Seen today as very English in character and often commenting on the changing position of Britian in post-war geopolitics, Conquest's view in his preface is that thier poems are characterised by honest rather than ideology. Despite being a prolific poet in his lifetime, Conquest is now best known as a leading sovietologist, who influenced both the anticommunist stances of Reagan and Thatcher. In the publisher's original green cloth, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart, with minimal marks to boards. Minor fading to spine, with small knocks to the head and tail, and to the extremities. Dust wrapper is bright and mostly clean with slight sunning to spine, and browning to rear wrapper extremities. The odd printing mark and blotch to rear wrapper. Slight nicking to wrapper head and tail of spine, and to extremities, with a small chip to head of wrapper front joint. A faint spot to front flyleaf. Slight offsetting to free end papers with small offsetting mark to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed. None (illustrator). book.…
