Cabinet card. Albumen photograph [11.5 cm x 19 cm] on a tan Winter & Pond mount [14.5 cm 22 cm] with a Winter & Pond backstamp. Title in the negative. Gentle wear to mount. Image shows uniformed men clubbing seals with poles. Alaskan photographers Lloyd Winter and E. Percy Pond documented the Klondike Gold Rush, mining operations in the Juneau Gold Belt District and traditional Tlingit Indian culture. Winter & Pond operated their Juneau-based curio and photography studio for over 50 years. They expanded their business by publishing scrapbooks or albums of original photographs on subjects of interest to the tourist trade.
