Father Dyer, at the age of 49 and with failing eyesight, walked from Iowa to arrive in Breckenridge, Colorado in 1841. His autobiography, The Snow-shoe Itinerant : An Autobiography of the Rev. John L. Dyer, Familiarly Known as "Father Dyer" of the Colorado Conference, published in 1890, describes this part of the world.
