Sherman had a gift for writing and as a senior resident partner of a banking house in San Francisco, he wrote frequent reports and letters to the home office in St. Louis. Most of these letters were preserved and printed here for the first time giving a good look at Gold Rush Banking. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Before becoming a Civil War general, William Tecumseh Sherman was a banker in San Francisco from 1853 to 1857. This is the story, based mostly on Sherman's letters to one of his partners in St. Louis, of his banking career. Full cloth binding. Covers clean. Gilt lettering on spine bright. Very little wear to be seen, though there is a tiny ink mark on the bottom page edges. The dust jacket has tiny nicks and tears here and there but is doing a good job of protecting the binding. Interior is unmarked. 446 pages. Illustrations. Extensive notes and extensive bibliography. Index.
