Durel was an English cleric who spent many years working in France at the Savoy Chapel who had originally translated the Book of Common Prayer into French. While the French translation was immediately popular, a Latin edition was ordered. Curiously, Durel was not the first choice for the translation, but after John Earle of Salisbury died (the original choice for the translation), the project was passed on Durel who completed the first Latin Book of Common Prayer in 1670.
