(exhibition catalogue, Musee National des Arts d'Afrique, Paris, 1998). 303 pages, 309 color and b/w photographs, 2 maps. A wonderful exhibition of Bateke art (from both the Congo and Gabon) drawn from major museum collections in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany and Sweden--acquired by missionaries at the turn of the century--was held in 1998. In this catalogue of the exhibition are nine essays (in French) on Bateke arts and rituals and hundreds of excellent photogrpahs of objects.
