The Middle East Journal is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal published by the Middle East Institute (Washington, D.C.). It was established in 1947 and covers research on the modern Middle East, including political, economic, and social developments and historical events in North Africa, the Middle East, Caucasus, and Central Asia. The editor-in-chief is Michael Collins Dunn. The Middle East Institute was founded in 1946 to promote the study of the region in a modern, policy-relevant context. From its outset, one of its priorities was "[t]he editing and publishing of an authoritative journal on Middle Eastern affairs." Accordingly, the first issue of the journal appeared in January 1947. In this issue is an article by Richard Russell entitled "Iraq's Chemical Weapons Legacy: What Others Might Learn". Footnotes The Middle East Institute was founded in 1946 by George Camp Keiser and former Secretary of State Christian Herter and since then "has been an important conduit of information between Middle Eastern nations and American policymakers, organizations and the public." Their website goes on to note that they "publish quarterly one of the most prestigious journals on the Middle East, The Middle East Journal." This special issue recognizes that technological revolutions are hard to date, unlike political revolutions. Technological revolutions can promote, or provoke, political and social changes as is evident in the arab work from North Africa to the Arabian Peninsula during 2011. The printing press was of enormous importance to Egypt after Napoleon first brought on into the country; today electrons can fly across borders in many cases with ease, but not without risk.
