Con menos dinero que el que usted gastaría en el alquiler de un libro mediocre, tendrá en su poder los maravillosos volúmenes de la Enciclopedia Pulga, que conservará siempre. Pero al contrario de lo que pudiera pensarse de una edición tan modesta, los libros no eran de contenidos banales, pues la colección desempeñó una labor educativa considerable, ya que los relatos aportaban diversos estilos, géneros y autores, que por el módico precio de 1'50 pesetas, inculcaron en los niños y jóvenes de la época, un inicio y una entrada al fabuloso mundo de la literatura. Historia, viajes, biografías, grandes relatos, ciencia ficción, cine, teatro, ópera y una variedad de temas, la convirtieron en la predilecta de la juventud.Sobre el autor::Alexandre Dumas (Villers-Cotterêts, 1802 - Puys, cerca de Dieppe, 1870), conocido en los países de habla hispana como Alejandro Dumas, fue un novelista y dramaturgo francés. Su hijo, Alexandre Dumas fue también un escritor conocido.Es un autor prolífico (tragedias, dramas, melodramas, aventuras.) aunque, para atender a la creciente demanda del público, tuvo que recurrir a la ayuda, notoria, de "colaboradores" entre los que destacó Auguste Maquet (1839-1851) que intervino en varias de sus novelas, entre ellas Los tres mosqueteros y El Conde de Montecristo (1844). Maquet publicaría poco después su propia versión, pero tanto ésta como la de Gatien son verdaderos esperpentos literarios, mientras la de Alejandro Dumas es muy ágil y divertida.
