Gandara a ses deux tableaux sur la cimaise [Antonio de La Gandara (1862/1917) obtient une médaille de bronze à l'Exposition universelle de 1889]. J'ai vu Dubufe qui avait reçu à ce sujet une forte correspondance entre autres d…e la comtesse Greffulhe. Le dit Dubufe a répondu à tout ce monde et Gandara en est certainement instruit». Mais il ne veut lui répondre en personne n'étant pas celui qui doit lui annoncer la bonne nouvelle. «Dis lui que je m'intéresse à lui et que j'ai agi dans son intérêt. Mais, c'est égal, tu sais, entre nous. Ce genre de tableaux gagne beaucoup à être vus dans la cave et dans le mystère.
