Ads at the rear list seven titles in the Phillips Exeter series, plus ten more pages of books by various authors, none of them originally published after 1908. The cloth shows general light edgewea with the corner tips just through. A clean, tight, unmarked copy. Mattson & Davis 59500, format 1. PLEASE NOTE: Buyers should understand that the publisher's slug on the copyright page is useless in determining first edition status on any of this publisher's books issued after the merger of D. Lothrop with Lee & Shepard in June 1905. While the slug, which reads "Published/month/year" was likely originally designed to show first edition status, the fact is that it was never removed from any of this publisher's reprints for at least 15 years, during which time not only books by this author but many others were reprinted with the slug intact, thus causing confusion ever since.
