Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. This is 'Among The Zulus - The Adventures of Hans Sterk South African Hunter and Pioneer' by Major-Gen A.W Drayson. It is published by Griffith Farran Browne & Co Ltd with no publishing date although the hand written inscription states 1912 - as a first edition. It is a hardcover book with no dust jacket - the cover is a rusty red shade with decorative detail to the front and spine then titling to the spine and front aspect - the cover shows bumping to corners and edges, fading to spine. Noted scuffing to cover with significant shelf/usage marks. The interior front & rear cover is pulling away from the book however the book is fully intact. It is inscripted with pen to front fly pag. Significant yellowing and aging to pages. Pages 336, Dimensions 20cm x 14cm x 3.3cm.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. First Edition; First Printing. A very good hardback book in a dark green based decorated cloth with gilt titling to the spine. One small hole in the cloth near the top of the spine - almost invisible. No dustjacket. Overall very clean and tight, with all hinges sound inside and out, but with some light edge/corner rubbing and bumping to the covers. Page fore-edges lightly dusty but clean with no foxing or similar. Internally, a light stain to the bottom inner edge of the pale lemon endpapers, o/w overall Excellent. A former owner has written their name on the front pastedown - "T. Wood Gwernyfed". I'm pretty sure that this is Colonel Thomas Wood, as in 1872 he inherited the Gwernyfed Estate. The son of Thomas Wood of Gwernyfed, MP for Breconshire 1806-1847, and brother-in-law of Castlereagh. No other inscriptions or marks . (xi) + (1) + 312 pp plus 48 page Publishers' Catalogue at the end. 14 chapters. "Alfred Wilks (or Wilkes) Drayson 1827-1901 was an English Army Officer, Author and Astronomer. He was a personal friend of Arthur Conan Doyle, who dedicated the short story collection 'The Captain of the Polestar' to him. Drayson graduated in 1846 at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. Commissioned, he then served in the Seventh Xhosa War. He rose through the ranks of the Royal Artillery, being promoted captain in 1854; Major in 1868; Lieutenant-Colonel in 1869, and Colonel in 1874. He was in India around 1877, & was based at Halifax, Nova Scotia for five years. From 1858 to 1873 Drayson was on the Military Topography staff at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, serving as Professor of Surveying & Topographical Drawing. He retired from the army as a Major-General in 1883, and became president of the Portsmouth Literary and Scientific Society. " A Scarce title. See Images. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.
