A good account/depiction of the early frontier with all of its adventures, pitfalls and tragedies. I…t is, however, doubtful that all of the author's stories are true and surely didn't happen to him. Wear at head and foot of spine; some of the silver decorations…are rubbed. Light scattered foxing. Still, overall bright and attractive. Howes (Final Edition) 492: "Reminiscences--chiefly of adventures that never happened -- by a senile braggart." However, there have been recently discovered historical notes showing that Drannan worked as a civilian contractor for the army during the Modoc War, which puts Drannan where he said he was at the time he said he was there -- even if he didn't participate in the ways he claimed. Robert E. Howard, author of Conan the Barbarian books, was inspired by Drannan's reminiscences. Americana. H.S. de Lay (illustrator).
