Dark blue cloth, titles stamped in white on the front cover and in gilt on the spine, xi [3], 496 pp., frontispiece (portrait of Dr. Cranfill), foreword, illustrated from photographs, plates, portraits. BTB 35 says: "This is the hearty autobiography of a Texas trail driver, editor, doctor, preacher, and prohibitionist. J. Frank Dobie called it 'down right and concrete,' and said Cranfill 'was a lot of things besides a Baptist preacher, trail driver, fiddler, publisher, always an observer." Throughout, he sparkles with wit and honesty, relating his life in such a forthright manner that the most mundane events are infused with interest. His is the most revealing of all Texas preacher memoirs." Laid-in are obituary notices of Dr Cranfill's death at 84 years of age and dated December 29, 1942 reveal an extraordinary life of care for his fellow man and concern for important human issues. Covers lightly rubbed, else a near fine, bright, tight copy.
