Contact seller4-star sellerMagazine (Softcover w/ pressed. Condition: Good+. The Ciro-flex was a series of 6x6 TLRs made by the American manufacturer Ciro beginning circa 1941. All share a strong resemblance, with uncoupled red window film advance and Wollensak lenses & shutters. By using a slightly longer-than-normal 85mm focal length, sharpness in the c…orners of the 2¼×2¼-inch image remained adequate even with a less-expensive triplet lens design. The earliest model A's were built in Detroit, Michigan; and "ciro-flex" appears uncapitalized on the nameplate. Post-WWII production resumed with the models B ( with an Alphax shutter) and C (Rapax shutter). By 1947 the company had relocated to Delaware, Ohio. While text explains operations and effects possible with the Ciro-flex cameras, basic framing and action shot techniques are also emphasized. Last page has a trouble-shooting guide. Trade paperback. Condition: Good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. xxiv,276, [6] pages. Illustrations. Notes. Appendix. Bibliography. Index. Inscribed by the author on the half title page. The inscription reads To Lily Kate--For yesterday, Silvia Giagnoni. Illustrated cover has some wear and soiling. Foreword by Monica Ra…mirez. Silvia Giagnoni is a writer, freelance journalist, activist, and media scholar who lives in Prato. She worked as a film journalist while pursuing her degree at "La Sapienza," before moving to London. In 2003, she was accepted into the doctoral program at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. While in the U.S., she became fascinated with Christian rock and ended up writing her dissertation on the phenomenon. She wrote and produced a documentary film on the topic (Take it Back? Evangelical Christianity and Popular Music). In Florida, Prof. Giagnoni also became an advocate for farmworkers' rights upon "discovering" Immokalee, the labor-pool community that became the subject of her narrative non-fiction account, Fields of Resistance. The Struggle of Florida's Farmworkers for Justice. In 2008, Prof. Giagnoni was hired as an assistant professor in the Department of Communication and Theatre at Auburn University Montgomery. She spent ten years in the birthplace of the civil rights movements, strengthening her ties with the local activist community and deepening her commitment to social justice issues. While at AUM, she reached the rank of associate professor and finished her investigation on immigration in Alabama in the years of state-level policy activism on the issue, Here we May Rest. Alabama Immigrants in the Age of HB 56. Hailed as the most restrictive immigration bill in the nation, the Beason-Hammon Alabama Taxpayer & Citizen Protection Act (known as HB 56) went into effect in September 2011. Its intent was to create jobs for Alabamians by making the lives of undocumented immigrants in the state impossible, so that they would self-deport. It failed. Here We May Rest offers a comprehensive explanation of how and why HB 56 came about and reports on its effects on immigrant communities. Author Silvia Giagnoni argues that the legislation was anti-immigrant, not merely "anti-illegal immigration" as its proponents claimed. Building a case against the legalistic framework through which the bill was promoted, Giagnoni dissects the role the media, and Fox News specifically, played in criminalizing immigrants as well as mainstreaming immigrant-haters, which created the xenophobic climate that paved the way for the Trump Presidency. The new immigrants of Alabama take center stage in the second part of the book, reclaiming their role in the cultural, social, and economic development of the state. Giagnoni concludes with an appeal against any form of social segregation because only direct contact -- "massive, prolonged, equal and intimate," as Howard Zinn argued -- will cure the stereotyping and prejudice that feed ignorance and foster fear. Valerie Downes (Author photograph) (illustrator).
