First and only edition of this scarce literary and counter-cultural curiosity. Although credited to Dean Koontz and his wife Gerda, the book was substantially rewritten without his approval by the publisher from a manuscript Koontz submitted in 1969. Koontz has since publicly disavowed the published version, stating it bears little resemblance to his original work and that Gerda did not contribute. A fascinating artifact of late-1960searly-1970s underground publishing culture and an unusual footnote in Koontz's early bibliography. This soundly bound copy shows a mild shelf lean and some reader creasing to the spine, with general edge rubbing and some superficial stress creases to the covers. This copy is a few degrees shelf-cocked, with some scuffs and bumps, but overall still tightly bound and solid. No date on the title page. Copyright page dated only 1970. 192 pages. Woodstock, pot, body painting, groupies. Koontz has written more than 100 books under his various pen-names over the last 50 years. This was among the first and, curiously, is not listed on the bibliography on his own website. Book has no creased page corners from prior reading, no hard vertical spine creasing, hint of wear to spine tips and to left/right on spine, no foxing to pages or outer page edges, slight dust soiling to outer page edges which are still white (no age darkening), no hinge splits, no cover creases, just slight color rubbing to covers (much less than normally found with this book), no former owner's markings or used bookstore stamps inside, hint of edge wear, no cover tears, no soiling or staining to covers. Overall a FINE- book of a very rare Dean Koontz printing book and signed by Koontz.
