Condition: neu. OKart., 190 Seiten mit zahlr. Reproduktionen, 8° (21,5 x 23,5 cm), neu. // hardback, 190 pages with reproductions of the photographs, 8o, brand-new copy. "'I know what I'm not: definitely I'm not a documentarist' is how photographer Viktor Kolá? defended himself in one interview from having his work assigned to a genre in which he took no interest. And this same stance is revealed again in the new book of photographs that he prepared for KANT Publishers following the success of his now hard-to-find volumes Ostrava (2010) and Canada 1968-1973 (2013). Kolá?'s shots may speak with unusual eloquence about a specific place and its changes over time, yet they do so only indirectly. In reality, they concentrate on those moments of sudden and unique, sometimes even improbable "encounters" - precisely in the sense that this word was used by the Surrealists. These aesthetically powerful black-and-white photographs miss nothing of the indelible characteristics of Ostrava, a city of mining and industry, yet the resulting portrait of the city is imaginary, not a realistic description. As such, in the accompanying essays by Manuel Anceau, Jan Balabán, Martin Dostál and Jaromír Typlt, Viktor Kolá? is discussed not only as a photographer but equally as a poet, using images in place of words." "Catalogue for the exhibition of the painter and textile artist Zdena ?afka in Villa Pellé, which had the ambition to capture and exhibit all the essential painting periods and textile works of this artist. In a way, the exhibition was a retrospective of sorts. In the year of her seventieth birthday, Zdena ?afka thus mixed paintings and textiles, landscapes and abstractions, oils and acrylics with pastels and watercolours. The colourful and sensitive view of natural things, people and events around us, as well as the fine yarn of imagery, make up a complex and interconnected ensemble that has both a summery esprit and a melancholy that belongs to nature and to the outlook on life. Colour is dominant here, as is its muting and getting lost in indeterminacy. Aesthetic dominance is not a refinement, but a necessity to happily experience the present." "The catalogue illustrates a unique exhibition of Pistek's artwork in the South Bohemian Gallery in Hluboka nad Vltavou, which focuses specifically on his hyper-realistic era with a hint of his European and American comrades' paintings. The painter was introduced in a complex overview by his pivotal and iconic works from the beginning of the 1970s till the first half of the next decade, nevertheless, he was returning to his distinctive realism until recently. In the context of Theodor Pistek's (born 25th October 1932 in Prague) work it's utterly thrilling on the one hand to compare his approach to American hyperrealist Richard Estes, and on the other, to the tendencies of European painting, which are based on realism (Jacques Monory, Gerhard Richter or Gérard Gasiorowski) or they immediately follow up on realism (Gottfried Helnwein)." first edition; hardback, 229 pp., abundantly illustrated, large 4to (23,5 x 28 cm), brand-new copy. "Jiri Hauschka (born 1965 in Sumperk) turns to this type of painting method that utilizes colours and symbolic connotations, prevalent at the turn of the 20th century - he positions himself in that period next to the Canadian painter Tom Thomson (1877-1917) - and used by contemporary painters such as Daniel Richter or Peter Doig. Reality is transformed by the painter's narration into layered storytelling, where the artist's memory is interspersed with new experiences, views, desires and emotional turbulences. In the case of Jiri Hauschka, we find ourselves in the wilderness of painter nostalgia, where we look for the conceptual person, and in urban civilization, which has barely any options left and where we can therefore feel and see the colours of wilderness. The authors of the texts are Martin Dostál and the famous British art historian Edward Lucie-Smith." Book Language/s: English, Czech.…

Condition: neu. OKart. (laminiert), 127 Seiten mit zahlr. teils farb. Abb., quer-4° (24 x 22 cm), neu. Zweisprachig tschechisch und englisch. "The book depicts the unique meeting of Theodor and Jan Pi?tek, father and son, two outstanding painters who presented themselves in 2022 at the Two Worlds exhibition at the Villa Pellé Gallery in Prague. It was a significant event: despite their closest relationship, they had never exhibited together before. Theodor is a key figure in hyperrealist painting and his work as a costume designer has brought him worldwide recognition. Jan occupies an important position in the postmodern generation that entered the art scene at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s. Each has an unmistakable style based on a distinctive vision of reality and both are perfectionists. The book traces the family's venerable roots, showing all the paintings and sculptures on display, while preserving for posterity the form of a show that had an extraordinary audience response."
