It was magical in the sense that I lived almost a Tom Sawyer-like life growing up in the small town of Vale, Oregon. We could ride out of school, float down the river, hunt jackrabbits, blow the hell out of things with firecrackers, and watch our heroes at the Rex Theatre." A memoir of growing up in Vale, Oregon during the mid-twentieth century, by a businessman who spent 31 years with Ore-Ida Foods. Masterson draws on family history to incorporate stories of his parents, who were cowboys and pioneers in eastern Oregon, alongside his own accounts of the home front during World War II, working summers in Alaska, Army service, work at Boeing, and a long career with Ore-Ida Foods in Ontario and Boise, Idaho.
