Similarly, in foundation design, foundation settlements are calculated without considering the influence of the structural stiffness. But a realistic analysis and design procedure should include actual support flexibility, nonlinear and heterogeneous nature of the soil together with nonlinear soil-structure interaction effects. Such an analysis would result in overall stiffness of the soil-foundation-structure system, realistic to the existing conditions. Although, interaction effect is ignored to simplify the mathematical model but neglecting the interaction between soils and structures may result in a design that is either unnecessarily costly or unsafe. This work focuses on proving the importance of Soil Structure Interaction for framed structure and computational modeling of ground-structure interaction using Finite Element Method. 200 pp. Englisch.
