Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Editions. Hardbacks. 8vos. pp 312, 307, 322. The printed dedication is to fellow novelist Richard Garnett. Original publisher's dark brown cloth lettered gilt at the spines (with gilt blocking and decorations around the title) and on cover with blind stamp patterning at top and bottom of bo…th covers. A novel set in the Paris Communes in the late 1870s featuring English characters caught up in events, partly set in London. Thriller elements but seemingly no fantasy elements (except dreams) unlike Derwent's later 3 volume novel 'A Daughter of the Pyramids' (1890) which was much praised by George Locke. Decent sound very good copies with very slight lean, some rubbing at extremities and slight unobtrusive splitting at rear lower spine hinge of third volume. Clean text, no inscriptions.
