'This portrait shows the King and Queen of Denmark, and three generations of their descendants, namely, the Princess of Wales, Her Royal Highness's daughter, the Duchess of Fife, and the Duchess's daughter Lady Alexandra Duff.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Included. Special Edition. 4to. 267 + (1 blank)pages. Fraktur type. Woodcut vignette of royal cypher on title; ornamental woodcut at end. Contemporary sheep. A summary of the legislation relating to the Danish trades and their guilds enacted during the reign of King Frederick V (1746-66) including confirmations of earlier statutes. Individual ordinances, here reprinted with their dates of issue, stipulate working conditions and wages, the obligations of employers and the duties of apprentices. The forty-one trades named include wig-makers (pp4-16, 89-90), chimney-sweeps (pp20-22), cobblers, merchants (pp33-52), tobacco manufacturers (pp52-68), stocking-makers, a variety of smiths, clock-makers (pp80-88, 135-139), carters (pp91-111), painters, dockers, masons, factory workers, bakers, hatters, ship-builders (pp214-230), sugar-refiners and syrop-makers (pp231-242). Tables setting out guild regulations (pp192-193 & 250-251)are followed by specifications for each trade of Schleswig (the statutes are published both in Danish and in German for the benefit of the mixed population). The final section XXXIV (pp259-264) reproduces a royal ordinance concerning the establishment of a tobacco pipe factory. A good copy; some light foxing, a few isolated inkstains in edges of blank margins of last quire.

Condition: Good. 9.3 x 4.4 cm. Oblong, Ink on Laid Paper, Autograph clipped from piece of correspondence with Marlborough House printed at upper right, and Alexandra's signature below a color illustration of a crown. Good.

No other copy of this royal memento has been traced, either on OCLC WorldCat or on COPAC. It is 29 + [3]pp, 32mo. Stitched with white thread into shiny white paper covers, with title duplicated within border in black on front, and back cover carrying an advertisement for a 'New Series of Packets of Books, for the young'. The final three pages carry a catalogue of 'Publications of The Book Society, 19, Paternoster Row, London.' In fair condition lightly aged, with faded front cover and dogeared corners. Frontispiece engraving of the royal couple, encircled by design topped by the Prince of Wales feathers. A royal souvenir, written in the usual mix of eulogy and religiosity, with author's initials 'F. G.' at end.
