Our Kin, Past and Present is a RARE and difficult to find genealogical family history book compiled by Delma Turnbow Freeman and first published in 1979. Its a substantial work (about 312 pages) that documents family lines and histories, particularly focused on the Turnbow family and related kin. This… book is structured as a comprehensive genealogy, tracing the ancestry, descendants, and extended family lines of the Turnbow family, especially those connected to James William Turnbow (1850 to 1928), who migrated from Arkansas to Erath County, Texas, and his wife Laura Belle Myers, whom he married in 1872. It covers births, marriages, deaths, migrations, and relationships of family members, and describes where different branches of the family lived, primarily across Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and beyond. Very good to like new hardcover copy. The book features a beautiful green cover embossed in gold, with no dust jacket as issued. The exterior is clean, showing no stains or markings, with only the slightest edge wear and minimal bumping consistent with careful storage. The spine remains strong and attractive, and the binding is tight. An inscription from a member of the Turnbow family to her grandchildren appears on the front endpaper, adding a meaningful provenance. Aside from this family inscription, the interior pages are clean and well preserved with no writing, tears, or stains. The only exception is in the rear index, where several family names and connections have been neatly highlighted by the grandparents; this was done carefully and does not detract from the presentation or readability. Overall, the volume shows very little age for a book approaching fifty years old and presents as a handsome, well-kept edition. If you're exploring your ancestry or researching family connections in the American South and Southwest, especially involving Turnbow and related surnames, this book can provide rich primary information about who your ancestors were and how the family evolved over time.
