Adele DeLeeuw was a librarian in Plainfield, NJ but made her name as an author of children's books, writing over 75 of them in her lifetime. She would have turned 24 the year this piece was published, making it one of her earlier publications. Her first book, *The Flavor of Holland* was published five years later in 1928.
