A precursor to MAD Magazine, Ballyhoo was a humor & satire magazine launched in August 1931. Created by George T. Its humor mocked corporate and advertising culture with spoofs of advertisements and caricatures of politicians and public figures of the period including President Hoover and prohibition. The satirical insert is titled "The Evening Traffic" for October 20, 1931 with boxes on either side of the title proclaiming "Weather: Fine Night for a Murder" and "All the Stiffs that are Fit to Print" followed by illustrated satirical stories about murders. The magazine further satirizes cigar advertising, and a song to drive away the Great Depression, mocking President Hoover, Calvin Coolidge, Al Smith, Henry Ford and Mayor Walker.
