Sensory-critical connection between painting and photography. Sabine Dehnel (* 1971 in Ludwigshafen) is an emerging guard in the young German painting and photo scene. Painting, photography and installation merge in her work; the result is often a C-print with a clearly visible painterly aspect. Even in her latest series Mona, the viewer does not initially know whether it is photographs or paintings. Here Dehnel paints the skin of her models, which she then photographs. Strictly limited to the colored cleavage on which an amulet with black and white portraits of large women rests, the artist thus raises the subject of femininity and the mysterious relationship between idols and their admirers.
