Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Illustrated Edition. Charming 1945 Appleton-Century-Crofts edition of Margaret Lee Runbeck's beloved Miss Boo stories, bringing together in one revised volume the previously published Our Miss Boo (1942) and Time for Each Other (1944). The copyright page specifically notes that this is a new one-volume edition combining the two earlier works. The book features delightful black-and-white illustrations ("decorations") by acclaimed American artist Peggy Bacon, whose lively pen-and-ink drawings perfectly complement Runbeck's warm portrayal of childhood. Bacon was one of America's most respected illustrators and caricaturists of the twentieth century, and her work is an important feature of this edition. Miss Boo became one of the memorable child characters of 1940s American literature. Told with humor, sensitivity, and remarkable insight into the mind of a young child, these stories explore family life, imagination, friendship, and growing up with unusual warmth and psychological realism. Published immediately after World War II, this omnibus reflects a period when publishers frequently combined successful juvenile novels into attractive single-volume editions for a growing family readership. The result is a handsome mid-century children's book that captures both the optimism and domestic ideals of postwar America. An appealing copy for collectors of vintage children's literature, Peggy Bacon illustrations, Appleton-Century juvenile publications, and twentieth-century American fiction. Notable Features Original 1945 edition Original dust jacket present Peggy Bacon illustrations throughout Combination of Our Miss Boo and Time for Each Other Clean, unmarked interior Tight binding Attractive collectible copy Condition Notes Book: Tight binding Clean cloth boards Bright spine lettering Clean pages No ownership inscriptions observed No ex-library markings Light shelf wear only Dust Jacket: Original jacket Small chips at spine ends Several short edge tears Light rubbing and shelf wear Bright front panel with strong color.
