This beautiful book amply reflects the art of the stained glass windows--recently restored in a seven-year process--in this 13th-century chapel built by King Louis IX in Paris. Plates…bright and clean but some foxing throughout with a p. 39 tear repair. "Cell" design endpapers in ocean blue/white/gray/brown faded towards edges. Inside front gutter showing at top. Red/green/white "muddle" design for boards with red leather six-band quarter spine (gilt lettering and design) and corners. Front/back covers have spots, scrapes, usual shelf wear with chipping along all edges. However, holding together quite well after 140-plus years.

Bound in contemporary half morocco and marbled paper over boards, marbled endpapers. Ex-library copy with spine label, bookplate, and small ink ownership stamp on the title page and plates, else very good. The color lithographs and engraved plates are bright and clean.
