An excellent introduction to the fascinating world of early children's books. Excerpts are included from a very wide variety of types and genres. De Vries, a Dutch writer for children, having stumbled on some early children's books by chance, had already published a similar anthology of Dutch children's books to introduce them to a wider public. He had discovered then that many of these were translations of English children's books and his quest for these led him to London and then to Toronto and the Osborne Collection.
