Edgar Chahine was a 19th century French printmaker who scorned the elegant and superficial Paris which so many artists recorded. He concentrated on poor neighborhoods, character types, and itinerant fun fairs. The Carnavalet Museum was given by the artist's son 125 proofs of his father's prints, which join those already in their collection, to prompt this publication. Following a forward by the Museum Curator and a preface by Pierre Mazars, duotone prints are accompanied with captions by Pascal de la Vaissiere and exerpts from a study by Ulla Ehrensvard. 51 pages includes bibliography, list of exhibitions.
