A perfectly serviceable reference copy; nothing fancy, bu…t complete and sturdy, bound in what appears to be original publisher's vellum binding, mildly soiled and moderately rubbed, stitches and knots showing slightly, coveres having partially separated and been expertly glue-repaired. Some soiling to and extensive penned inscription at first free endpaper, rubbed out. xxxii, 1-464 pp. Entirely in Spanish. Particularly fine publisher engraved device at title page. Fine engraved initials, moderate foxing throughout, text-block lightly waffled, some signs of insect damage but unobtrusive, but quite bright of interior. Pedro Malon de Chaide was an Augustinian monk who had some difficulties in publishing this work in the Spanish language. Palau says of him "the pure and traditional style of Malon de Chaide is a glory for Spanish literature, and there are even those who grant him primacy over the celebrated brother Luis de Leon." All in, a quite scarce and valuable work of early Spanish literature.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.

Covers rubbed, small losses at corners and spine ends, label lacks about 40%; both free endpapers partly attached to flyleaves [as made?], about 1/2 pages lightly dampsoiled. Firmly bound.
