Burnes returned to India as a diplomat before precipitating colonial intrigue in Afghanistan as part of 'The Great Game,' where he was then assassinated prior to the first Anglo-Afghan War, but only after killing six assailants. 'Cabool,' a 'casual and informal account of life at Kabul,' in which Burnes gives 'geographical, agricultural, political, and linguistic information' that 'exceed usual interest' describes his second journey to Afghanistan from 1836-1838 and was posthumously published.
