This Presentation Edition, numbered 4499, drawn from the first copies of the first printing, is bound in pure linen sailcloth over hand-beveled boards, with a spine of top-grain goatskin stamped in genuine gold foil. The cover illustration is an actual-size reproduction of a stylized sea urchin from a rare piece of ancient tapa cloth, while the slipcase & endpapers are reproductions of another piece of this cloth. Protected in a clear, stiff, thin acetate cover, which shows tearing at both ends of spine. In 287 pages with notes on the photographs & map. Condition is Near Fine: completely clean & tight & square; old gift inscription on title page; NO other writing, highlighting, or underlining; NOT ex-lib. The clear acetate DJ is marred only by those 2 tears at upper & lower spine. Original Slipcase IS PRESENT on this copy, but in only Good condition, with heavy rubbing & tearing of the paper covering the sturdy cardboard along all the opening edges.
