Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Published by the National Gallery of Art in 1951, Renaissance Bronzes from the Kress Collection documents the Samuel H. Kress Foundation's acquisitions from 1945-1951, covering statuettes, plaquettes, medals, coins, and reliefs from the Italian Renaissance and related European schools. This substantial scholarly volume includes detailed catalogue entries, historical essays, and high-quality black-and-white plates illustrating masterpieces by Riccio, Fra Antonio da Brescia, Cardoso, and other major artists. An inserted errata slip clarifies textual corrections, as issued. The book is in Near Fine condition and is clean, solid, and well-preserved, with tight binding and sharp internal pages free of markings. Plates are crisp, and the text block is clean. The original yellow printed wrappers (softcover) show moderate wear consistent with age, including rubbing, edge wear, light creasing, and some surface marks. Interior pages remain bright and unfoxed, showing only mild age toning at margins. This is the First Edition (1951), printed in the United States by the National Gallery of Art's Publications Fund. Includes all preliminaries, full contents, indices of artists and medal subjects, and complete plate sections. An important reference work for Renaissance bronze scholarship and a foundational document of the Kress Collection's impact on American art institutions. Publication details: National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., 1951. Softcover. 211 + plates. Includes errata slip. Printed in the U.S.A.
