Schwenter studierte orientalische Sprachen und Mathematik an der Universität Altdorf, wo er Schüler des Mathematikers und Astronomen Johann Richter (Johannes Praetorius) war. "Seine zahlreichen Schriften gehören zum geringeren Theile der orientalischen Philologie, zum größeren Theile der Mathematik an; einiges fällt nun gar in ganz andere Gebiete. (.)" Die Erquickstunden "bilden eine Fundgrube geschichtlicher Notizen, welche einer systematischen Ausbeutung noch immer harrt. Den Mathematiker interessirt vornehmlich, daß hier die erste Anwendung von Kettenbrüchen in einem deutschen Werke vorkommt.
