Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Dinosaurs have long presented a fascinating enigma to man: What did they look like? How did they live? Why were they so huge? Why did they disappear so completely? This large format book, answers these questions. The author attempts to begin by setting the dinsaurs in their correct time and space, showing global distribution as the original super-continent of Pangaea drifted apart to form the seperate continents, spreading the dinosaurs throughout their Mesozoic world. Illustrations incorporate recent scientific advances in the understanding of the relevant paleoenvironments and climates. The most recent fossil discoveries from around the world, notably Australia, China, the Artic, Alaska, and Patagonia, are also included. The author then proceeds to an analysis of the dinosaurs themselves. Evidence of dinosaur behaviour from new fossil discoveries of dinosaur nesting grounds, fossil trackways, and vast bone beds is considered, producing theories on such questions as parental care, herding activity, and co-operative hunting abilities. Advances in the study of dinosaur anatomy, body postures, and locomotive capabilities are also discussed, as well as how and why we speculate on the possible colouration of dinosaurs. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Glazed boards. Profusely illustrated in color (illustrator). First edition, first printing. 348. 11.25" x 8.75" Major Herbert M. Dawley was an early pioneer in American stop-motion animation and film, particularly notable for his contributions to visual effects in the early 20th century. His most significant work includes The Ghost of Slumber Mountain (1918), a groundbreaking film that combined live-action and stop-motion techniques to depict dinosaurs and prehistoric life on screen. This film, marked one of the first times that dinosaurs were portrayed in realistic detail in cinema, influencing how prehistoric creatures were depicted in films for decades. Dawley's work with stop-motion not only inspired future animators and filmmakers but also helped pave the way for landmark productions like King Kong (1933). His blending of storytelling with innovative visual techniques contributed to the evolution of visual effects and demonstrated the potential of film as a medium for creative and fantastical storytelling. Stephen Czerkas, here Dawley's biographer, was an American paleontologist, cinematic sculptor, and co-founder of the Dinosaur Museum. Unfortunately, he passed away the year before the publication of this project; however, his wife Sylvia was determined to see this project to completion. ASSOCIATION COPY. Inscribed by Sylvia Czerkas to the late Colorado Paleontologist Martin Lockley, from whose collection this book comes. Additional letter of compliments from The Dinosaur Museum is laid in, signed by Sylvia. DVD included in rear. Bump to lower edge, else near fine.
