Condition: Very good. [Massachusetts], 1935., 1935. Very good. - A 2 inch high by 3-1/2 inch wide card signed & dated "James M. Curley / Gov. of Mass / 1935" by the Democratic politician. The edges of the card are darkened, else very good.One of the most colorful figures in Massachusetts politics, James M. Curley (1874-1958) served four terms as Mayor of Boston between 1914 and 1950, running in every election for which he was legally qualified. Curley was twice convicted of criminal behavior and served time in prison during his last term as mayor. In between his terms as mayor, he was elected Governor of Massachusetts, serving from 1935 to 1937. He had also served 2 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. While in office, he enlarged Boston City Hospital, expanded public transit, funded the improvement of roads and bridges and improved neighborhoods by funding playgrounds, parks, public schools, libraries, beaches and bathhouses providing much needed jobs during the Depression. …
