Dopo un e…xcursus storico su tali fenomeni sino al XIX secolo (con diffusi cenni su Mesmer, Braid, Charcot, ecc.) l'autore discorre dei fenomeni generali associati all'ipnosi, delle allucinazioni e degli impulsi da essa indotti, della suggestione in stato di veglia, della catalessi, delle reazioni fisiologiche che si accompagnano allo stato ipnotico, dell'ipnosi considerata sotto il prospetto terapeutico e sotto quello psicologico, nonché della regolamentazione che il diritto deve porre a problemi correlati con l'ipnotismo stesso, come la possbiltà di indirizzare ad azioni criminali un soggetto che versa in stato ipnotico. Il Culllerre, nato nel 1849 (non è nota la data del suo decesso), era socio corrispondente della Société médico-psychologique di Parigi. Lasciò, tra le altre opere La theraputique suggestive et ses applications aux maladies nerveuses et mentales, a la chirurgie, a l'obstetrique et a la pedagogie; Les enfants nerveux: education et prophylaxie; Nervosisme et nevroses: hygiène des enerves et des nevropathes .
