Born in 1819, the English author wrote numerous highly-regarded novels such as "The Mill on the Floss," "Silas Marner" and "Middlemarch," among many others. Entries arranged, edited and indexed by J. W. Cross. With a tissue-guarded frontis portrait of Eliot. Possibly published c.1880s-1920s, though 1884 date appears in book. --- In maroon cloth with spine titling in gilt, TEG (top edge gilt). Volume lacks a dust jacket. --- With conspicuous discoloration to back cover and mild scuffing to cover edges, else a tightly-bound, unmarked, sound copy.; Small Octavo - 7-1/2 to 8 in. tall; x, 763 pages.

None Stated. 385 + 354 + 373 pp, these 3 volumes comprise the Illustrated Cabinet Edition, there are photo etchings with tissue guards, the set is circa 1880's, some pages are uncut, the pages are clean with only occasional soil, the covers are solid and tight with light soil and wear, a very usable set arranged and edited by George Eliot's husband.

Undated, but probably between 1885-1899, (date of penned ownership to FEP). From the collection of Ian Angus (British Librarian and a scholar on George Orwell), whose name and date are pencilled to FEP. Also penned to the FEP is the name 'Howard Carter', however not the Egyptologist. Boards are a little scored. Edges, corners and spine ends are bumped and rubbed. Page block is tanned and blemished. Foxing noted on the pastedowns and endpapers. Spots of foxing also noted on a few of the pages, which are otherwise clear. Spine stitching visible in places, however binding remains sound. LW. Used.

Three-Quarter Leather. Condition: Very Good. Cabinet edition. Published circa 1880. Three-quarter morocco leather over marbled boards with raised bands on the spine and marbled endpages. Each volume measures 5 x 7 1/4 inches. Volumes 22, 23 and 24 of the Works of George Eliot. The boards show light edgewear with rubbing. The bindings are sound. A very handsome pair of volumes.
