Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket, As Issued. Two hardcover books in one, the book must be flipped to read the other story. Beautifully illustrated; covered in Mylar; The bindings are tight and square. Text is clean; light, even age-toning. Moderate shelf handling wear.Dandelion Library edition. The Grolier Society's 1967 edition of A Child's Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson and Best Loved Fairy Tales, featuring illustrations by Walter Crane, and Jessie Wilcox Smith is a beautifully crafted volume that brings together two timeless works of children's literature. This dual-book format offers readers a delightful journey through the innocence of childhood and the enchanting world of classic fairy tales. Walter Crane (18451915) was a leading figure in the Arts and Crafts movement and a prolific illustrator of children's books. His work is known for its decorative style, bold colors, and intricate patterns. In this edition, Crane's illustrations complement the text, adding a visual richness that enhances the storytelling experience. Jessie Willcox Smith (18631935) was a celebrated American illustrator known for her enchanting depictions of children and their world. A key figure in the Golden Age of American Illustration, Smith's work is characterized by its warmth, softness, and an idealized portrayal of childhood. She worked with several prominent authors, most notably illustrating Robert Louis Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses. Smith's illustrations in this edition are imbued with a tenderness and delicate detail that perfectly complement Stevenson's poetic exploration of childhood innocence and wonder. Christie's, Subjects: Childhood, Nature, Fairy Tales, Classic Literature, Victorian Illustration, Children's Literature, Poetry, Illustrated Classics. Illustrations of Jessie Willcox Smith & Walter Crane. (illustrator).…

Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 4to. 29.5 by 22 cm. 40, [1] pp. Leaves are folded in the Japanese manner, giving the leaves a substantiality. In this, one of Walter Crane's most famous works, he freely draws upon the styles of dress from the Jacobean, Georgian, Regency periods, as well as those from a vague Medieval past -- court jesters, wizards, etc. -- such as one finds in fairy tales, some ball gowns more contemporary to him. The illustrations are a pageantry of color inspired by the work's fanciful progression of the calendar. This is a near exemplary copy of the work that was a part of the Forbes Magazine Collection (which was a privately owned museum gallery). A discrete impressed stamp identifies it as such and it may thus be technically considered ex-lib, although the provenance in this instance, combined with its lovely condition, would seem to enhance the copy. The dust jacket is an uncommon survival. Externally there is one minor corner chip and light wear besides. If one lifts the jacket off the book one will see an old edge tape repair that is best to leave as is. Hardcover, illustrated paper pastedown. …

First edition with the illustrations by Walter Crane. Double title page. In partial dust wrapper missing nearly all of the spine panel, otherwise all main elements are present. The front panel of the dust jacket is a composite design that is different from the two title pages. Virtually unknown in dust wrapper. This book was the first entry in the famous Turn of a Century exhibition. This book is generally found with cracked hinges due to some fault in its construction; in this copy, in keeping with its superior state of preservation, the hinges are barely starting. To minimize further damage photography of the book, the contents of which are well known, is restricted.…
