Starting in the early 1930s, Father Coughlin was one of the first political leaders to make use of radio to reach a mass audience; an estimated 30 million people listened to his weekly broadcasts. Originally a supporter of FDR and the New Deal, Coughlin's populism became increasingly pro-Fascist and anti-Semitic, and his show was cancelled in 1939.
