Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Five books and one folio of maps/charts, published 1955-1974. Volume I: The Voyage of the Endeavor, 1768-1771 (1954). Volume II: The Voyage of the Resolution and Adventure, 1772-1775 (1961). Volume III: The Voyage of the Resolution and Discovery, 1776-1780; in two books, both published 1967. Volume IV: The Life of Captain James Cook (1974), by J. C. Beaglehole. Folio: 'Charts and Views' (1955), edited by R. A. Skelton, with content reproduced from the original manuscripts, all present and in their original interior sleeve. Each book and the taller folio are bound in blue cloth with gilt titling and decoration; volume four (the 'Life') shares this design as described, with blue cloth and the same decoration, but with blue topstain and endsheets, and beige dust jacket. Folio in beige paper sleeve. All volumes: cloth shows rubbing, edgewear, slight 'must' scent. Spines square. Bindings sound. Light to moderate foxing to textblock edges and endsheets of all volumes, heavier foxing to inside covers of the folio, and very heavy browning to rear internal hinge of Volume III, Part One. Staplebound addenda and corrigenda present, laid-in, for volumes one, two, and part one of volume three; rust formation in the staples resulted in rust transfer/staining to interior hinges at staple sites. These booklets are still present and are now stored in separate, protective plastic sleeves. Dust jackets for volumes 1-3 (the first four books) are pale blue, with the 'Life' and the 'Charts and Views' in beige. Dust jackets scuffed and lightly edgeworn, with some toning to spines of volumes one and both parts of volume three; and a few small spots of staining to volume two across center spine and extending into the spinal margin of front panel. 'Charts and Views' folio is housed in beige paper sleeve (of similar weight to a dust wrapper) with navy titling and decoration, showing heavy edgewear, chip from back, tape reinforcement at spine and back cover; protected in Mylar. Charts have light to moderate foxing, mostly contained to the first and last few and mostly at verso, rather than on the charts themselves. Interiors are otherwise unmarked, with no prior owner's names, notes, or marginal notations. Inquiries welcome; photographs available upon request.
