Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Paper-covered boards, cloth backstrip with paper label; pp. [x], 239, portrait frontispiece of Soskice (at age 4) by Ford Madox-Brown (sic), 6 illustrations. Inscribed on FFEP by Soskice, in lovely script, "To Joseph Conrad / from SCC April 27, 1922." Spine browned, label cracked b…ut whole and legible; corners bumped. An intriguing association copy. Pencil note at the front and old description states that SCC is Sidney Cockerell director of the Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge, responsible for their Pre-Raphaelite collection. The author, Juliet Soskice, was the granddaughter of Ford Madox-Brown, the sister of Olivier and Ford Madox-Hueffer (who co-authored with Conrad), and the niece of William Michael Rosetti. Books inscribed to Conrad are now uncommon on the market.
