Neujahrsblatt hsgg. von der Feuerwerker-Gesellschaft (Artillerie-Kollegium) - Rohr [Fries] p. 74 (Nr. 737); Barth 1850 - Frontispiz: 'Bürgermeister Ziegler vor den Eidgenossen nach der Einnahme der Stadt' nach einem Gemälde von…Ferdinand Wachsmuth - Tafel: Ansicht der befestigten Stadt Mülhausen 'Mülhusium Alsatiae / Mühlhausen' nach einem Kupferstich von Matthäus Merian aus dem Jahre 1642 - 'Finninger-' od. 'Finingerhandel': so genannt nach einem aus dem solothurnischen Matzendorf nach Mülhausen ausgewanderten Brüderpaar, Jakob und Matthis Finninger, die u.a. wegen einer Waldnutzung mit der dortigen Regierung Streit bekamen. Der konfessionell wesentlich mit beeinflusste Konflikt zog sich in die Länge und wuchs sich zu einer Affäre aus, "die schliesslich die ganze Eidgenossenschaft in Mitleidenschaft zog, und deren Resultat der Bruch Mülhausens mit den katholischen Orten war. [.] Die Evangelischen liessen indessen Mülhausen nicht fahren und kamen ihm im Sommer 1587 sogar militärisch zu Hilfe." (HBLS; vgl. Dierauer 3, 2. Aufl. 1921, p. 403 ff.) - "Es kamen an 2000 reformirte Truppen mit 12 Stücken, und nach großer Zurüstung wurde die Stadt am 25. [Juni] durch Sturm eingenommen, wobei die hartnäkigen Mühlhauser 110 Mann verloren, und die Weiber sich noch hiziger zeigten als selbst die Männer. [.] Die Stadt mußte den reformirten Ständen huldigen, und die Weiber von den Gesandten derselben im Münster eine Strafrede anhören." (J. A. Henne, Neue Schweizerchronik fürs Volk, Bd. 3, 1834, p. 52) - Solches und auch drakonischere Strafen waren die Folgen, "nachdem die Truppen von Zürich, Bern, Basel und Schaffhausen, die um ihre Interessen im getreidereichen Elsass fürchteten, Mülhausen erobert hatten. In der Folge unterhielt Mülhausen, das vorübergehend von einer Garnison beschützt wurde, nur noch zu den reformierten Orten Beziehungen."
