Contact seller5-star sellerFirst paperback edition of Ian Flemingâs You Only Live Twice, the eleventh James Bond novel and the last published in the authorâs lifetime. Duodecimo, original pictorial wrappers. Boldly signed by Sean Connery on the front cover. Scottish actor Sean Conneryâs acting breakthrough came in the role of British secret agent James Bond. Between 1962 and 1967, Connery played 007 in Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, and You Only Live Twice, the first five Bond films produced by Eon Productions. After departing from the role, Connery returned for the seventh film, Diamonds Are Forever, in 1971 and made his final appearance as Bond in Never Say Never Again, a 1983 remake of Thunderball produced by Jack Schwartzmanâs Taliafilm. All seven films were commercially successful. James Bond, as portrayed by Connery, was selected as the third-greatest hero in cinema history by the American Film Institute. A wonderful association, uniting Flemingâs Bond with the actor who defined him. You Only Live Twice is the eleventh novel and twelfth book in Ian Flemingâs James Bond series and the last to be published in his lifetime, Fleming having died in 1964. The novel sends Bond to Japan in the aftermath of personal tragedy, pitting him against his archenemy Ernst Stavro Blofeld in a remote island fortress, and forms the middle chapter of the loose Blofeld trilogy that runs from On Her Majestyâs Secret Service through The Man with the Golden Gun. Sean Connery (1930-2020) was the first actor to play James Bond on screen and the definitive interpreter of the role, originating the part in Dr. No in 1962 and going on to star in From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever, and the later Never Say Never Again. The 1967 film of You Only Live Twice, with a screenplay by Roald Dahl and Connery as Bond opposite Donald Pleasence as Blofeld, gave the series some of its most iconic imagery, from the volcano lair to the Little Nellie autogyro, and remains among the most celebrated entries in the franchise.…

Contact seller5-star sellerFirst edition of the sixth Bond thriller. Octavo, original black cloth, with the "Honeychile" silhouette. Boldly signed by Sean Connery on the front free endpaper. Sean Connery's casting as James Bond in the 1962 film adaptation of Dr. No marked the beginning of what would become one of the most consequential franchises in the history of cinema. His portrayal established the template against which every actor to take on the role since has been measured, in physicality, in reserve, and in the dry wit beneath a veneer of control. Dr. No was produced on a budget of approximately one million dollars, a sum studios at the time regarded as modest for the material, and it went on to gross nearly sixty million dollars worldwide, a return that startled United Artists and prompted the immediate production of further installments. In the years since, seven actors have taken on the role of 007 across twenty-seven films, which have collectively grossed over 7.8 billion dollars worldwide, making Bond one of the highest-grossing franchises in film history. Connery himself played the role five more times for Eon Productions, and his portrayal remains the benchmark against which the character's screen presence is measured. Much of that owes to the physical charisma and magnetism he brought to the role, qualities that made the character as much a figure of desire as of danger and shaped how leading men in the genre have carried themselves ever since. The convergence of Fleming's source material with Connery's performance did much to fix Bond in the public imagination, and copies signed by Connery connect the literary origin of the character to the film series that carried his name to a global audience. Very good in a very good dust jacket, bookplate to the front pastedown. Jacket design by Pat Marriott. Rare and desirable. The further adventures of "literature's most famous spy" (Steinbrunner & Penzler, 151) and basis for the first Bond film in 1962, starring Sean Connery and Ursula Andress. Time acclaimed the title villain as "one of the least forgettable characters in modern fiction" (Black, 32). With brown-stamped dancing girl silhouette on front board ("probably intended to be Honeychile Rider" [Biondi & Pickard, 44]).…

Contact seller5-star sellerFirst edition of the seventh novel in Ian Fleming's James Bond series, basis for the film starring Sean Connery. Octavo, original black cloth. Boldly signed by Sean Connery on the front free endpaper. Sean Connery's casting as James Bond in the 1964 film adaptation of Goldfinger remains one of his most iconic performances, building on the momentum he had already established in Dr. No and From Russia with Love, and it was this third outing that marked the moment the franchise became a global phenomenon. Produced on a budget of three million dollars, roughly the combined cost of the two films that preceded it, Goldfinger recouped its budget within two weeks of release and went on to gross nearly one hundred twenty-five million dollars worldwide, a pace no film had previously matched. It established many of the conventions now synonymous with the series: the pretitle action sequence, the elaborate set-piece villain's lair, and the closer integration of gadgetry into the plot. Connery's performance in the role benefited from a character and a production that had by then found their footing, and it is this performance, together with those in the two films before it, that fixed the popular image of Bond for decades to follow. Much of that owes to the physical charisma and magnetism he brought to the role, qualities that made the character as much a figure of desire as of danger, and that shaped how leading men in the genre have carried themselves ever since. Copies signed by Connery mark the point at which the literary character and the actor most associated with him became, in the public mind, inseparable. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Richard Chopping. An exceptional example, rare and desirable signed by Sean Connery. Goldfinger originally bore the title The Richest Man in the World. Based upon American gold tycoon Charles W. Englehard, Fleming named his villain after British architect Erno Goldfinger. When the actual Goldfinger found out his name was being used, he threatened to sue Fleming, and the matter was ultimately settled out of court. A best-seller upon its release, it became the third James Bond film in 1964 starring Sean Connery.…

Contact seller5-star sellerFirst edition, first state of the fifth James Bond novel and what Fleming considered one of his best books and listed in Life magazine as one of US President John F. Kennedy's top ten favorite books. Octavo, original cloth with gilt titles to the spine, gilt rose and gun emblem to the front panel. Boldly signed by Sean Connery, who starred as 007 in the film on the front free endpaper. Sean Connery's return as James Bond in the 1963 film adaptation of From Russia with Love confirmed that the success of Dr. No had been no accident, and it was this second outing that set the pattern the series would follow for decades. Produced on a budget of roughly two million dollars, double that of its predecessor, the film went on to gross nearly seventy-nine million dollars worldwide, outperforming the first and assuring United Artists that Bond was a franchise rather than a single success. From Russia with Love introduced several of the conventions that would come to define the series, among them the pre-title teaser sequence, the first of Q's gadgets in the form of the fitted attachà case, and Desmond Llewelyn's debut as the quartermaster. Its path to the screen owed something to an unlikely endorsement, Fleming's novel having appeared on President Kennedy's list of ten favorite books in a 1961 Life magazine feature, which did much to establish the character with American readers in the years just before the film's release. Connery's performance, more assured than in Dr. No and still free of the excess that later entries would invite, fixed the popular image of Bond at the moment the series found its footing. Much of that owes to the physical charisma and magnetism he brought to the role, qualities that made the character as much a figure of desire as of danger, and that shaped how leading men in the genre have carried themselves ever since. Copies signed by Connery join the literary origin of the character to the film series that carried his name to a global audience. Near fine in a near fine issue dust jacket. Jacket design by Richard Chopping. Rare and desirable signed. "Described in the Times Literary Supplement as 'most brilliant,' the book was a great commercial success and helped to launch Fleming as a best-selling novelist It ended with Bond seriously wounded and nearly killed by fugu poison from the sex organs of the Japanese globe-fish While the ending was not quite Sherlock Holmes and his apparently fatal last struggle with evil at the Reichenbach Falls, Fleming had provided himself with an opportunity to remove his hero. He was not, however, to take it. There was public agitation when 007 was reported dead. Bond was irreplaceable" (Black, 27, 30). "This is a very highly sought after title, as it is generally considered the best novel in the series and the best of the movies, as well" (Biondi & Pickard, 44).
