The author opposes "in unpleasant controversy" the admissibility of the plays of the Italian historian and poet Marchese Scipione Francesco Maffei (1675-1755), whose importance lies especially in his contribution to the renewal of Italian theater with the tragedy "Merope. This was praised in detail by Lessing in the "Hamburgische Dramaturgie"; by Goldsmith as "the most finished tragedy of the world". Maffei defended his theater against the exaggerations of the rigiorist Concina by his writing "De teatri antichi e moderni", which had the applause of Pope Benedict XIV. - Title with marginalia in an old hand.Erste Ausgabe dieser literaturwissenschaftlichen, interessanten Arbeit des Daniel Concina (1686-1756), einem namhaften theologischen Schriftsteller.
